The sign of Jonah and the three days of darkness. Part 1

(Mat 12: 39-40) is very clear about what the sign of Jonah is: “[39] But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: [40] For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” KJV.

The evil and adulterous generation is the Pharisees who didn’t accept the Messiah. The sign of Jonah was about the three days JESUS would spend in “darkness” before resurrecting into eternity. But other important things happened during Christ’s crucifixion. Let’s review them one by one:

(Mat 27:45) “Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.” KJV. There was darkness in the land for about “three” hours. Eclipses do not last that long. This was certainly a sign from the LORD.

(Mat 27:51) “And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;” KJV. Immediately after JESUS’ death, the veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the area the priests could stand so they won’t be able to see anything inside, was completely rent in two, from top to bottom. The Holy Spirit left the Jewish temple when they killed their Messiah, the veil became useless afterwards. Also, there was an earthquake so great that the rocks split apart.

(Mat 27:52-53) “[52] And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, [53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.” KJV. All these people that resurrected were most certainly saints of old, this were not Christian believers. They also spent three days in darkness, inside their tombs, waiting for the LORD to resurrect. In (Heb 11:13), “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” KJV. The saints of old died in faith, knowing the promises of GOD, and believing they would receive them even after their deaths.

(Mat 27:54) “Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. KJV. The unbelieving gentiles that crucified the LORD turned into believers after witnessing these events. Remember (Pro 9:10), “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. KJV.” These gentiles received the SPIRIT of Fear of the LORD, and wisely believed JESUS was the son of GOD.

At the end times, all this events will have to be repeated as a final warning to the pharisees and the gentile unbelievers that the time of repentance is ending.  We can find all these events present in the sixth seal.

(Rev 6:12) “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;” KJV. A great earthquake and an undetermined time of darkness starts with the sixth seal events.

(Rev 6:14) “And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.” KJV. Heaven rolling out as a scroll will allow us to see what is behind it, just as when the veil was torn, they were allowed to see inside the Holy of Holies. (Mat 14:19) “And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.” KJV. Why did JESUS look up to heaven when blessing the loaves of bread and fishes? Because HE was asking the FATHER to multiply them. The throne of GOD is up there behind the heavens, and once it is rolled out those on earth will be able to see it.

(Rev 6:15-17) “[15] And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; [16] And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: [17] For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” KJV. The rich and powerful will not even repent at the sight of the sixth seal events, neither the bondman nor the free man. They run and hide in their bunkers away from the LORD. These people are unbelievers, their time of conversion has come to an end. The time of the gentiles has ended. In (Luk 21:24) “And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” KJV. The time of the gentiles has ended because the mark of the beast is in full effect. (Rev 13:16) “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:” KJV. Those who take the mark won’t be able to repent anymore.

So far, we have seen the parallel between the events that happened during the sign of Jonah at JESUS’ death and the events that will happen in the day of HIS return. This is because the end times started when JESUSCHRIST was crucified, and they will end at HIS return. The LORD shows the same signs at the beginning and the end of the end times to clearly mark that the time of repentance has ended. After these events there will be no more grace.

Connecting the sign of Jonah with the three days of darkness is easier if we understand the sequence of events during the tribulation period.

The three days of darkness is a Catholic prophecy. They say that there is going to be three days and three nights of great darkness over the whole planet. During this time, demons will roam the earth killing all those that they find in their way. The only way to protect yourself against them is by blessing and anointing your doors and windows, covering the windows so they cannot see inside the house, using white natural-made candles (no added fragrances) to illuminate your house, and of course remaining inside praying.

Because this connection is long, I will only show in this post why the three days of darkness are not just possible but certain to happen at the same time of the end days.

(Rev 6:13) “And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.” KJV. What the stars of heaven are, is defined in (Rev 1:20) “The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.” .KJV. The stars of heaven are Angels, but in the case of (Rev 6:13) they are fallen angels. Once they fall to earth, it is possible they will be allowed to roam earth seeking whom they may devour. But those faithful to the LORD will take refuge inside their homes as they did during the time the Angel killed all the first born of Egypt. (Exo 12:12) “For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.” KJV.

The next post will show the connection of the three days of darkness with the rapture of the church, and when they are supposed to happen according to the tribulation timeline.

GOD bless you and keep you.
