Head of the family: Divine authority

According to the bible, the head of the family has divine authority over his house. Typically, the father figure is giving the power to decide the destiny of the family members.

For example, Abraham had the authority given by GOD to sacrifice his only child Isaac (Gen 22:1-13). Abraham, by being obedient, received additional blessings from GOD. However these blessings extended over all of his descendants (Gen 22:14-18).

From these two accounts it is obvious that GOD uses the head of the family to pass blessings over the bloodline. It is also clear that there can be a covenant between GOD and the head of the family that could determine the destiny of the people in his house. Them, by just being present and accepting the authority of the head of the family, do all they need to be included in the blessings of GOD.

The most specific example of this happened during Noah’s flood (Gen 6:9-22). GOD found Noah pure in his generations, but not his wife neither his children. Because mankind only thought evil all the time during those days, GOD decided to kill them all. The only one wordy of survival was Noah, but not his family. GOD made a covenant with Noah to build and arc and to put in it a selection of animals and his family. Noah built the arc and all his family was saved in it, even though they were not pure in their generations.

Noah made a covenant with GOD, but all his family was saved for he completed his part of the deal. He was obedient and faithful to GOD and that was enough to save his wife, his children and, his children’s wives.

This is the way to save your family, make a covenant with GOD and keep your part of it. GOD will save you and your family. Why am I so sure of it? Because GOD never changes. What HE did thousands of years ago HE will do again when facing the same situation.

Let’s see another example. In (Jos 24:14-25) Joshua pronounce his famous words “but as for me and my house we will serve the LORD”. He is not just talking about his own household, his wife and kids. He is taking about all of his tribe. Thousands of people were included in this covenant to serve the LORD only. Joshua had the authority to do it because he was the leader of his tribe, however in this case, the whole tribe will have to serve the LORD as well to comply with the covenant.

The covenant made between GOD and Joshua delegated responsibilities to each household leader. Each one was responsible to follow what Joshua promised. The household members were responsible for remaining under the authority of the household leader.

Maybe the most important account appears in (Act 16,16-34), between the jailer and Paul. From which the most important two verses are “30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” KJV.

The jailer, head of the family, saved his whole house by believing in JESUS. This is the only covenant that can save all those under your authority. We must take notice that the jailer wasn’t even a Jew, he was a gentile, he didn’t even believed in GOD and wasn’t even expecting to save his family, he was just asking how to save himself.

If you want to save yourself and your family from eternal damnation you can do it by believing in the gospel of JESUSCHRIST.

JESUS, the son of GOD, came to this world to die for all humanity, why you might ask, the answer is in (Rom 6:23) “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” KJV.

JESUS died and shed all HIS blood on the cross. On the third day HE was resurrected by GOD. HE ascended into heaven. HE is sited at the right hand of the FATHER. JESUSCHRIST will come again at the end times to judge the living and the dead. This day is rapidly approaching so don’t waste any more time.

We obtain our righteousness by faith, it is a gift of GOD. That righteousness makes us wordy of salvation.

JESUS is the only one that can save us, if you believe in HIM you will be saved if you don’t you won’t.

Once you decide to save yourself and your family by believing in the LORD, you can renew your covenant daily by taking communion (1 Cor 11:23-26) “23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.” KJV.

But remember, you must believe in the LORD before taking communion, otherwise taking it will become a curse unto you. (1 Cor 11:27), “Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.” KJV.

Finally, you don’t even need to be the father to make the covenant, you only need that those in your family agree with your covenant and support it. This is accounted on (Jos 2:1-24), Rahab was a daughter and a sister in the family nucleus, and she made a covenant with the spies of Israel and kept her part of it. Later on when Joshua and his army destroyed Jericho, Rahab and everyone in her family and everything she had was saved from destruction as it is accounted on (Jos 6:17-25).

Something important to remember is that if you have a rebellious son, and he is not accepting your authority, he will not be saved. For example if your son is a fornicator, and he stops fornicating inside your house but not outside of it, he is still rebelling against your authority and he won’t be saved. For your authority is not limited to the confines of your household but follows your son for as long as he lives, even if he leaves the household.

What you can do for your rebellious son, and for all your family members as well, is to pray.

Because you have authority over your son, your prayers can become extremely powerful as long as you comply with the Gospel of the LORD JESUSCHRIST. As stated in (Mat 7:7-11), If you are a faithful Christian, GOD will listen to your prayers and grant you what you asked for. Your rebellious son will receive what he deserves in hell, but GOD can still take him out of it. GOD would do so only if he has not sinned against the HOLY SPIRIT, and only after he has been purified from his sins in hell. But he will be saved.

(Rev 20:13-15), “[13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. [14] And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. [15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” KJV.

From verse 13, after hell there is judgment. If there is judgment, there is hope.

From verse 14, the lake of fire is the second death, the final destination for those found guilty in their final judgment. If there is no sin against the SPIRIT, there is hope.

From verse 15, pray that the LORD write the name of your rebellious son in the book of life, for the LORD will listen to your prayers as long as you abide in HIM as explained in (Jon 15:7), “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” KJV.

GOD bless you and keep you.
